The Kin House
Two connected dwellings shaped for shared family life, balancing closeness, independence and privacy through thoughtful planning and orientation.
ThThe Birkdale project comprises two related dwellings designed for an extended family. One home is dedicated to the children, while the other accommodates the rest of the household, allowing daily connection while maintaining independence and privacy.
The two houses are conceived as a pair—sharing a common architectural language while remaining distinct in form. This balance reflects the family dynamic, where closeness and individuality coexist.
Living areas and main bedrooms are positioned to capture the best available light, orientation and outlook. The planning prioritises comfort in everyday spaces, ensuring they benefit from natural light and views throughout the day.
Internal layouts and material choices are tailored to the needs of each group of occupants. The result is a genuinely client-led project, shaped around how the family lives, offering a cohesive yet flexible environment for shared family life over time.
