The Quiet House

An elevated corner-house that transforms exposure into advantage through restraint, filtration and precise control of light and privacy.

The Quiet House is positioned on an elevated corner site, where the land is effectively divided by topography and planning conditions. Occupying the outer portion of the site, the dark-toned dwelling benefits from open views and generous access to daylight. The design challenge lay not in gaining light, but in managing privacy within a highly exposed condition.

Rather than enclosing the house, the architectural response relies on filtration.
Carefully controlled openings, layered façades, adjustable screens and landscape thresholds allow living spaces to open toward sunlight and outlook while remaining protected from direct public view.

The architectural language is intentionally restrained.
A dark material palette anchors the house within its setting, while clear forms and controlled proportions prioritise usability, longevity and calm presence over visual statement.

The project demonstrates how careful site interpretation and disciplined design can unlock latent potential—balancing openness and privacy, light and protection—to create a practical, understated and enduring home.
