The Terraced House
An elevated family home shaped by topography, where outlook, connection and spatial hierarchy are carefully balanced.
Located on an uphill site in Birkdale, the house takes full advantage of its elevated position and expansive views. The natural slope is used to organise the home into three distinct levels, giving the residence a strong presence while allowing it to sit comfortably within the landscape.
Arrival occurs at the lower level, where the garage and an open entry zone create a welcoming transition from street to home. The middle level forms the core of family life, accommodating the main living, dining and kitchen spaces with direct connections to the pool and outdoor areas. The upper level is reserved for the master suite, positioned to capture the best outlook while maintaining privacy from the more active spaces below.
The planning balances openness with hierarchy.
Primary spaces are oriented toward light and views, while secondary areas are arranged to support the needs of different family members. Conceived as a cohesive organism rather than a collection of rooms, the house prioritises flow, connection and efficient use of its natural advantages, resulting in a home tailored to its occupants and their way of living.
