The Quartz House
A residence shaped by lightness, proportion and quiet clarity.
Quartz House is conceived as the luminous counterpart to its darker neighbour, Obsidian House—two homes responding to the same hillside terrain through contrasting material expressions. Where Obsidian is anchored and shadowed, Quartz House lifts and softens, offering a study in brightness, texture and the gentle behaviour of light across three refined levels.
Resting on a natural slope with elevated views, the home adopts a restrained palette of pale stone, warm timber and fine vertical screening. These elements filter light throughout the day, creating an atmosphere that feels calm, open and quietly precise. The architecture reads as a series of softened volumes—held lightly above the ground plane, shaped by the fall of the site and the strict 9.5-metre height envelope.
Inside, long sightlines and full-height openings draw daylight deep into the living spaces, dissolving the threshold between interior and landscape. The upper-level suites form a peaceful retreat, positioned to capture morning sun and framed greenery. On the main floor, the kitchen, dining and living areas flow as a continuous field of light, anchored by the garden courtyard and the pool terrace beyond. A soft interplay of transparency and enclosure defines the experience, allowing spaces to feel both intimate and expansive.
Functional zones are treated with equal consideration: the entry sequence is quiet and deliberate; the guest level and laundry are organised for clarity and ease; joinery is integrated to reduce visual noise. Throughout, proportions remain measured, with every detail working to preserve the overall sense of clarity.
Quartz House is, at its core, an exploration of light, refinement and spatial calm—a home where architecture, landscape and natural illumination converge to elevate everyday living. It offers a counterpoint to Obsidian House, together forming a pair of dwellings shaped by terrain, material honesty and a shared pursuit of subtle elegance.
